Ketubah FAQ
What is the recommended timeline for ordering my ketubah?
To ensure a smooth and stress-free process for your special day, I highly recommend ordering your ketubah at least two months before your wedding date. This allows ample time for our collaborative design, text approval (including any necessary officiant reviews), and comfortable standard shipping.
While I suggest this generous lead time, I understand that sometimes circumstances require a quicker turnaround. I am often able to accommodate orders in as little as two weeks (or even less). Please note that all standard US orders enjoy free shipping.
What is the ordering process for a ketubah
Ordering your meaningful ketubah is a thoughtful journey, and I'm here to guide you every step of the way. My streamlined process ensures your custom artwork is perfect for your special day.
Step One: Choose Your Sacred Text
Begin by exploring my carefully curated selection of beautiful ketubah texts here. I offer a diverse range of options, from traditional to contemporary, designed to reflect your unique journey and values. For same-sex and non-binary couples, I am honored to adapt any text (excluding traditional Orthodox versions) to beautifully suit your union, including a specific version crafted for non-binary couples. If you wish to provide your own custom wording, I warmly welcome it! Please note that Hebrew translation, if needed, can be easily added to your cart here.
Step Two: Share Your Cherished Details
During the checkout process, you'll find a dedicated area for order notes. Here, please provide all the essential details for your ketubah: both partners’ full names and their parents’ names (in English, and Hebrew if available), along with the city, date, and exact time of your ceremony. I embrace and celebrate love from all backgrounds – whether you have Hebrew names or are not Jewish, I am deeply honored to support you in marking this joyous moment in a way that is truly meaningful to you.
Step Three: Review Your Personalized Draft
Once your order is placed and details are submitted, my design process will begin crafting your personalized draft. I'll be in touch with any questions and will send your digital proof for review, typically within 24 hours. Your complete satisfaction is my priority! As a final assurance, if you have a Rabbi or Cantor officiating your wedding, I require their approval of the draft to ensure every detail is perfect. Once you, and your officiant (if applicable), are completely delighted, your custom ketubah will be lovingly sent to print and carefully shipped to you. It's truly that simple to create your timeless heirloom.
Do you offer expedited shipping for ketubot?
Absolutely! I'm committed to ensuring your ketubah arrives when you need it, even on a tighter schedule.
- Rush Production Fee: If you place your ketubah order less than 30 days before your ceremony, a $50 production rush fee will apply at checkout. This fee prioritizes your ketubah in my design queue, ensuring I can dedicate immediate attention to its creation.
- Expedited Shipping Fee: If you need your ketubah in less than two weeks, an additional fee for expedited shipping is necessary to ensure swift delivery. This fee is approximately $35 for unframed ketubot within the US, and $50 for framed ketubot within the US. You will see the specific express shipping options and their costs available to you at checkout.
For international orders or complex expedited requests, you may want to contact me before ordering.
Exact tax and shipping costs will be calculated and displayed clearly at checkout.
Can I provide my own ketubah text?
Absolutely! We welcome your unique vows and sentiments.
To submit your custom text, simply select the "Custom Text" option during checkout. Then copy and paste your desired text directly into the personalization field.
Regarding Hebrew Text & Formatting:
- Hebrew Translation: If your custom text requires translation into Hebrew, please add our "Translation Fee" to your cart. Alternatively, you're welcome to provide your own Hebrew translation.
- Transcribing Your Text: To ensure accuracy and efficiency, all custom text must be provided in a copy-and-paste format. If your text needs to be manually transcribed (typed out by us), a "Transcription Fee" will apply. This fee helps cover the additional time required for this service.
Important Note: For custom texts requiring both translation and transcription, you only need to purchase one fee, which covers both services.
Will I get to see a proof?
Yes, absolutely!
We want your special piece to be perfect.
You will receive a digital proof for your ketubah meticulously filled in with your unique wedding details, including names, date, and location. This crucial step ensures every single detail is precisely as you envision it and perfectly accurate before we proceed to print. Your peace of mind is paramount.
Will my officiant get to see a proof?
Absolutely! In fact, we highly recommend it to ensure your ketubah is perfect for your ceremony.
If a Rabbi or Cantor will be officiating your wedding, we require their final approval of your ketubah draft before we proceed to print. This essential step ensures the text precisely meets their requirements and beautifully aligns with the spiritual and halachic (Jewish law) needs of your ceremony, providing you with complete confidence.
Should you not have an officiant, or if their review is not required, the decision to share the draft for approval is entirely yours. We are always happy to send the final draft directly to your officiation for review and approval by request.
We want a Hebrew text but don't know our Hebrew names. What should we do?
It's quite common for couples to need a little guidance with Hebrew names, and as a rabbi I'm truly happy to help ensure your ketubah text is perfect! You have a few clear paths to ensure the correct Hebrew names are included:
- Discovering Existing Hebrew Names:
If you or your partner have a Hebrew name but aren't certain what it is, I can happily assist you in finding it from existing documents. Please check for your Hebrew name (or your parents' Hebrew names) on any of these certificates:
- Baby Naming Certificates
- Bris Certificates
- Bar/Bat Mitzvah Certificates
- Hebrew School Certificates
- Conversion Certificates
- For parents' Hebrew names: I can also look at a clear photo or screenshot of their existing ketubah!
- Transliteration for Unknown Hebrew Names or no Hebrew Name:
If you don't have access to these documents, or if you or certain family members do not have a traditional Hebrew name (which is absolutely fine and common, especially for interfaith or multicultural families!), I will simply transliterate their English names into Hebrew letters for the Hebrew section of your ketubah. This ensures the text is complete and beautifully meaningful to your family's unique journey.
A Helpful Tip if You Know Your Hebrew Name:
You don't need to know how to type your Hebrew name in Hebrew! Simply provide it to me in English letters, phonetically as it sounds, and I will accurately spell it in Hebrew for you.
Can you create a totally custom ketubah design?
Absolutely! I love bringing unique visions to life, and I'm often able to create a custom ketubah design just for you.
Here's how custom designs are typically handled:
- Standard Custom Design Fee: For custom designs featuring elements like florals, botanicals, mountains, landscapes, or patterns, there is usually an additional design fee of approximately $150. This fee covers my dedicated time and creative process in crafting a unique background that perfectly reflects your style. You can easily add this custom design fee to your basket here.
- Complex Custom Designs: For more intricate requests, such as designs incorporating people, specific animals, or highly detailed narrative scenes, please contact me directly for a personalized quote. These types of designs require a more extensive creative process, and I'll be happy to discuss your vision and provide a precise estimate.
I'm always excited to explore new ideas and help you create a truly one-of-a-kind ketubah that tells your unique love story!
What kind of pen should I use to sign my ketubah?
What kind of pen should I use to sign my ketubah?
To ensure your cherished ketubah remains a vibrant heirloom for generations, we strongly recommend using an archival ink pen for all signatures. Archival inks are specifically designed to resist fading and degradation over time, preserving your precious vows and the signatures of your loved ones. However, if you don't have one, any pen will do- just test it first so there are no surprises!
For exceptional quality and a smooth writing experience, we suggest the Sakura Pigma Micron 08 Pen. It's a reliable choice that ensures your signatures will endure.
Special Considerations for Dark Backgrounds:
If your ketubah features a very dark background in the signature area, a light-colored pen is essential to provide the necessary contrast for clear and beautiful signatures. White offers the most striking visibility, while elegant silver and gold pens can add a touch of shimmering beauty.

Does my ketubah or paper print come framed?
For my valued clients in the United States, I'm delighted to offer optional professional framing and matting services for all ketubot. This allows you to receive your beautiful artwork ready to display in your home.
A special note: If you choose framing for your ketubah, it will be shipped thoughtfully prepared without a sealed back. This allows for easy removal for signing on your wedding day, after which you can simply replace it in the frame.
You can explore all the exquisite framing styles, detailed options, materials, and care instructions here.
For clients residing in other countries, framing is not a standard offering due to shipping complexities. However, if you are interested in a ketubah, please don't hesitate to contact me! I'd be pleased to discuss potential international framing solutions and provide a personalized quote to help bring your vision to life.
Can we make small modifications to the text?
Yes, absolutely! I'm happy to accommodate minor adjustments to ensure your ketubah perfectly reflects your unique union.
Here's how text changes are handled:
- Complimentary Adjustments: There is no additional charge for common modifications such as adding or removing witness signature lines, or changing the decorative quote or "title" at the top of your ketubah. These are considered standard customizations.
- Minor Wording Tweaks: If you wish to make slight adjustments to specific words or phrases within the main ketubah text, I can certainly incorporate these for you. Please simply detail these requested changes in the personalization section during checkout.
- Extensive Changes: I'll carefully review all text alteration requests. If the changes are extensive, significantly alter the meaning, or require a substantial amount of re-typesetting or translation, I will reach out to you directly to request the $50 additional charge. This ensures transparency and covers the extra time involved.
Unsure if your desired change is minor or extensive? Please don't hesitate to contact me before placing your order! I'm always happy to provide clarity and answer any questions you have.
